Kargil: Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve today discussed entrepreneurship and employment generation opportunities in the District Kargil with experts of PAN IIT Group.
The experts include Pranoy Bargo, Alumni BHU and Abhishek Rath Alumni IIT Bombay are conducting a preliminary survey in the district to design their intervention in the district for rural entrepreneurship development and employment generation.
The team discussed various sectors in the district that have the potential to generate employment for the locals.
After few days of extensive research and observation in the district, the team maintained that apricot production, pashmina processing, and tourism are the three sectors that have economic potential.
The team further maintained that due to the willingness and domestic lifestyle, the district has scope of individual entrepreneurship.
Deputy Commissioner appraised that the district has a scope of growth in apricot, handicraft, handloom and leather works if proper exposure, training and marketing is provided to the locals.
The IIT team also visited the Government Degree College Kargil where they interacted with students of polytechnic, Industrial Training Institute and college students.
The team is looking up for scaling up rural entrepreneurship in the district. The team also visited the Skill Development Centre of the college and appraised them about various marketing strategies.
