GDC Zanskar Marks International Youth Day with Volleyball Match, Awareness Drive

Zanskar, August 12, 2026: Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar organised a volleyball match and a youth awareness programme under the Intensified IEC Campaign-2026 on the eve of International Youth Day, promoting sportsmanship, youth participation and social awareness among students.

The volleyball match was held under the supervision of Principal Dr. Amjad Ali Abbasi and coordinated by Dr. Hussain Ali, Director Physical Education and Sports. Students participated enthusiastically, showcasing team spirit, discipline and sporting talent.

Following the match, Dr. Sabir Hussain, Assistant Professor, Botany, GDC Zanskar, conducted an awareness session highlighting the significance of International Youth Day and the crucial role of young people in nation-building, social development, leadership, education, health and responsible citizenship.

The students were encouraged to become active and responsible members of society and contribute positively to the welfare of their communities.

The programme also featured an awareness session on HIV and AIDS by Dr. Jigmet Zazay, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology. He briefed students on HIV/AIDS, its modes of transmission, preventive measures and necessary precautions, stressing the importance of accurate information, early awareness, responsible behaviour and compassion towards affected individuals.

Principal Dr. Amjad Ali Abbasi appreciated the organisers and students for their active participation, noting that such initiatives contribute to the holistic development of youth by promoting physical fitness, confidence, cooperation, awareness and social responsibility.

The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates to participating students in recognition of their active involvement and commendable performance.
