Kargil, June 17: District Police Kargil on Wednesday concluded the sports events organized under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2026 with the final of the Taekwondo Championship and a grand closing ceremony held at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Centre, Kargil.

The closing ceremony was attended by Commander 121 Brigade Shri Anil Joshi as the Chief Guest and Colonel Subodh Samudre, Commanding Officer, Maratha Light Infantry, as the Guest of Honour. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kargil Shri Nitin Yadav, IPS, DySP Headquarters Shri Anayat-Ullah, police officers, coaches and sports enthusiasts were also present.

The sports festival, which began on June 6, witnessed enthusiastic participation from youth across Kargil district and featured a wide range of outdoor and indoor competitions aimed at promoting sportsmanship, physical fitness and constructive youth engagement.

Outdoor events included Football, Volleyball and Archery, while indoor competitions featured Taekwondo, Badminton, Debate and Painting contests. The large turnout and active participation reflected the growing enthusiasm among local youth for sports and extracurricular activities.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Anil Joshi appreciated the efforts of SSP Nitin Yadav and the District Police Kargil team for successfully organizing the sporting events and providing a meaningful platform for young talent to excel. He praised the participants for their discipline, dedication and sporting spirit, encouraging them to continue pursuing excellence both on and off the field.

Speaking on the occasion, SSP Nitin Yadav emphasized that the Civic Action Programme serves as an important initiative to engage youth in positive and productive activities while promoting healthy lifestyles and steering them away from social evils, particularly drug abuse.

He noted that such programmes not only nurture sporting talent but also strengthen trust and cooperation between the police and the community through meaningful interaction and engagement.

The SSP expressed gratitude to all sports associations, coaches, volunteers and participants for contributing to the success of the event. He also acknowledged the support extended by the Youth Services and Sports Department, Power Development Department (PDD) and Health Department.

The programme concluded with the distribution of prizes to winners and participants, celebrating their achievements and encouraging continued participation in sports and community-building activities.
