Visits Ladakhi Girls Hostels in Jammu; Orders Immediate Upgradation of Facilities
Jammu, December 1:
Reaffirming that the well-being and acade
mic growth of Ladakhi youth remain central to the UT’s future, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri Kavinder Gupta, today visited the Ladakhi Girls Hostel at Muthi, Jammu, as part of his ongoing outreach to assess student facilities outside the Union Territory.
During the visit, the LG interacted with students and hostel officials, taking stock of issues related to infrastructure, essential amenities, security, heating arrangements, sanitation, recreational spaces, and overall academic support systems. Students highlighted the need for upgraded facilities and improved maintenance.
After a detailed inspection of the hostel premises, the LG directed officials to prepare a comprehensive Detailed Project Report (DPR) for full-scale upgradation of the hostel. He instructed that the DPR should prioritise:

Structural repairs and modernisation of rooms

Efficient heating systems

Expansion of common areas

Strengthened safety measures

A more student-friendly and academically supportive environment
“The administration stands committed to improving educational support infrastructure for our students. Your well-being and academic progress are at the heart of Ladakh’s future,” the LG told the students.
Later, Shri Kavinder Gupta visited the Kargil Girls Hostel at Sidhra, where he held a similar review and interacted with resident students. The Deputy Commissioner Kargil briefed him on the facilities currently available, and students shared their suggestions and expectations.
The LG assured that both hostels will receive focused attention and that necessary approvals and actions will follow promptly to address all genuine concerns. He reiterated that the UT Administration is committed to ensuring safe, comfortable, and supportive accommodation for Ladakhi students studying outside the region.
“With timely intervention and improved infrastructure, we aim to make hostels for Ladakhi youth centres of learning, safety, and encouragement,” he said.
