Leh: Padma Shri Chewang Motup, who is the organiser and Race Director of Ladakh Marathon, called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
Padma Shri Motup informed that the Ladakh Marathon would be held in Ladakh for the first time after Ladakh became a Union Territory. He shared that participants from more than 55 countries have participated in Ladakh Marathon. He informed that the Marathon is also a qualifying race for Series XIII of the Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Rankings.
Padma Shri Motup apprised that he is expecting the participation of more people in Ladakh Marathon than in the previous years, especially in the Khardung-La Challenge and Silk Route Ultra. He informed that the organisers also scout new talents from Ladakh during the Ladakh Marathon to groom them for national and international events. He further informed that the entry for Ladakh Marathon is free for local participants.
Padma Shri Motup requested for support in the smooth conduct of the event. He also requested for intervention in providing uninterrupted power supply, luggage rooms along with toilet facilities for participants and staff during the Marathon.
A delegation from Tia village comprising Sarpanch Phuntsog Angchok and President, Barren Land Development Committee, Tia, Honorary Captain Chering Stobdan, requested for sanctioning of solar lift irrigation systems to irrigate the area at Tia-pe Thang. The delegation apprised about the potential of tourism activities in Tia village, especially trekking on the Tia-Largaib-Nubra route, and the development and promotion of the site on which the 92 feet tall statue of Lord Manjushri is currently being constructed in the village. They requested for a package for the development of tourism activities in the village.
