Northern Army Commander calls on LG Mishra, discusses security situation in Ladakh

Northern Army Commander calls on LG Mishra, discusses security situation in Ladakh

LEH: Northern Army Commander, Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, met Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Brig B D Mishra (Retd.) in Leh on Thursday and discussed the security situation of the Union Territory.

Lieutenant General Sharma assumed the appointment of the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Northern Command on May 1.

“The GOC-in-C, Northern Command, Lt General Pratik Sharma, along with GOC 14 Corps Lt General Hitesh Bhalla and other officials from the Northern Command, paid a courtesy call on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brig (Dr) B D Mishra (Retd),” the office of the LG of Ladakh said on X.

Meanwhile, activist Sajjad Kargili called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at Raj Niwas. Principal Secretary, Sanjeev Khirwar, IAS and Commissioner, Secretary to the LG, Dr L Franklin, IAS, were present in the meeting.

At the outset, Sajjad Kargili thanked the LG for the UT Administration’s assistance in planting more than 1 lakh saplings in Kargil to improve the green cover in the district.

He also apprised the LG of several other issues, viz. the need for a rehabilitation centre to provide speech and other therapies to people suffering from various such health issues; the need to expedite the purchase of MRI machine for District Hospital, Kargil; the need to set up a camp office of General Administration Department (GAD) of UT Ladakh for effective and efficient administrative functioning; the need to expedite projects under AMRUT 2.0 which have not kickstarted despite getting administrative approval and the need to hold Panchayat elections at the earliest, etc.

After a proper discussion with the Administrative Secretaries, the LG assured to look into the matter and take necessary steps for the benefit of the people of Ladakh.

Meanwhile, a delegation comprising members of the Indian Himalayan Council of Nalanda Buddhist Tradition (IHCNBT), led by its Secretary, Advocate Malinga Gombu and President IHCNBT Ladakh, Venerable Shatup Chamba, called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at Raj Niwas to request financial support for the IHCNBT’s corpus fund.

During the meeting, the delegation emphasised the importance of sustaining the IHCNBT and noted that Himalayan states such as Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim have already contributed towards the corpus fund.

They requested the UT Administration Ladakh to extend financial assistance, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Council.

The LG assured the delegation that the UT Administration would examine the matter in consultation with the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
