Leh: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh flagged off advance life support ambulance, mobile medical units and supervisory vehicles from Sonam Norboo Memorial (SNM) Hospital, Leh, today.
Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Adv Tashi Gyalson; Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal; Principal Secretary, Dr Pawan Kotwal; Commissioner/Secretary, Transport, Saugat Biswas; Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse; Director Health Service, Ladakh, Dr Motup Dorje; Mission Director, National Health Mission, Dr Iftakhar Ahmed Chowdhry; Chief Medical Officer, Leh, Dr Nurzin Angmo; Medical Superintendent, SNM Hospital, Dr Tsewang Chorol and medical staff were present during the flag off ceremony.
LG Mathur stated that the mobile medical units would help to screen the public health to detect diseases such as blood pressure, cancer, diabetes, etc, and provide health facilities to them, especially the people residing in remote areas of Ladakh.
He further stated that the mobile medical units would enable to monitor the health status and disease burden of the people of Ladakh and facilitate in providing medical facilities at the Health and Wellness Centres, SNM Hospital in Leh and District Hospital in Kargil based on the needs of the people of Ladakh.
LG Mathur stated that these vehicles would be sent at fixed intervals to provide medical services , particularly to the people residing in remote areas of Ladakh. He expressed hope to see significant improvement in the infrastructure of the medical sector of Ladakh with the addition of these vehicles.
The fleet of vehicles includes two mobile medical units, two mobile medical units with machinery equipment, one advance life support (ALS) and three supervisory vehicles. The mobile care units have facilities such as equipment to test blood, electrocardiogram (ECG) and dental unit. The advance life support ambulance, with critical life support system, will be used to transfer patients who have been referred for treatment to hospitals outside Ladakh. The vehicles have been purchased under Special Development Package (SDP), State Capex and Changthang Development Package.
