DRASS: PM Shri Government Middle School Doks Chutumail successfully organized a memorable Exposure Tour under the PM SHRI Scheme 2025–26 on 13/09/2025, taking students on an educational and patriotic journey through the historic and scenic Drass Valley. The itinerary included visits to the Kargil War Memorial, Draupadi Kund, and the picturesque Picnic Spot Matayen, blending history, culture, and recreation into a powerful learning experience.
At the Kargil War Memorial, students and teachers united in singing the National Anthem, paying homage to the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Kargil War of 1999. A special tribute was offered to Major Vikram Batra and other national heroes, with heartfelt salutes and reflections on their courage. Teachers provided insightful briefings on Operation Vijay, detailing the strategic brilliance of the Indian Army, the use of Bofors gun, artillery, fighter aircraft, and the heroic efforts that led to victory.
The tour also included an educational session on the strategic importance of Drass Valley, often called the Gateway to Ladakh. Teachers explained the region’s unique geography, cultural diversity, and linguistic richness. They highlighted the challenges posed by the Zojila Pass, which historically served as the sole road link to Ladakh and remained closed for six months due to heavy snowfall.
Students learned about the ongoing construction of the Zojila Tunnel, a landmark infrastructure project expected to be completed by end of 2026. Once finished, it will be the longest tunnel in Asia, ensuring year-round connectivity and enhancing national security and regional development.
At the Picnic Spot Matayen, students participated in a variety of engaging activities including games, nature walks, and team-building exercises. The scenic beauty and fresh mountain air added to the joy, making it a day filled with laughter, bonding, and unforgettable memories. Teachers and students alike cherished the opportunity to relax and celebrate the spirit of togetherness.
This exposure tour not only deepened students’ understanding of India’s military history and strategic geography but also instilled a strong sense of patriotism and cultural appreciation. The school expresses its sincere gratitude to the PM SHRI Scheme for enabling such transformative experiences.
