LEH: The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh on Wednesday passed a resolution demanding constitutional safeguards for protection of land, employment, culture, environment and trade, besides granting constitutional legality to the Council.
The resolution was passed by the LAHDC Leh in a special session of general council held under the chairmanship of Advocate Tashi Gyalson, Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Leh this morning at Conference Hall, Deputy Commissioner Office Leh.
The council noted that Ladakh has a distinct social cultural identity, a highly sensitive environment and strategic location, and that the general public has been aspiring for constitutional safeguards.
“Thus, the Union territory be granted with constitutional safeguards for the protection of land, employment, culture, environment and trade, according to the existing, and extent of the provisions of the Constitution, as per the aspiration of people of Ladakh,” read the resolution proposed in the meeting.
The resolution also demanded grant of constitutional legality to the Council Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh.
Speaking after the meeting, CEC Gyalson said that the resolution was passed by the council after extensive discussions between the councillors.
“Upon return of Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Member of Parliament from Ladakh, we will hold a discussion with him and then a delegation will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah to put forth our view,” he said.
When asked who will form the part of the delegation, Gyalson said that anyone can be a part of the delegation.
“This is not a BJP-specific issue. This is a concern of the entire Ladakh,” he added.
