Leh, Ladakh: In a major encouragement for Ladakh’s sporting talent, Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena extended financial assistance of ₹50,000 each to four outstanding athletes representing the region on national and international platforms.
The support was provided to Stanzin Tsewang and Skarma Dawa Zesal, who will represent India at the Asian Pencak Silat Championship; Shanaz Parveen, the first woman from Ladakh to represent India twice at the World University Games; and Padma Namgail, one of Ladakh’s youngest Mount Everest summiteers through the NCC Expedition.
LG Saxena praised the dedication, hard work and achievements of the athletes, stating that their success has brought immense pride to Ladakh and the nation.
He said sportspersons are the pride of Ladakh and supporting their dreams is a collective responsibility. The assistance, he added, is aimed at boosting their morale as they continue to achieve greater milestones at national and international levels.
LG Saxena also conveyed his best wishes to the athletes for their future endeavours and hoped they would continue to inspire the younger generation.
