Zanskar, September 17, 2026: A strong spirit of community participation was witnessed at Sani, Zanskar, as a Shramdaan for Swachhta (Cleanliness Drive) was organised at the venue of the recently concluded 11th Edition of the Zanskar Festival.
The cleanliness drive brought together Ama Tsokspa, Government Degree College Zanskar, Government Higher Secondary School, residents of Sani village, Heads of Departments and staff from various government departments.
Students, teaching and non-teaching staff, government officials and local residents actively participated in cleaning the festival venue and surrounding areas, reinforcing the message of shared responsibility for a clean and healthy environment.
During the programme, Nazir Hussain, Deputy Secretary, Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (LAACL), visited Sani and expressed gratitude to the people of Zanskar for their cooperation and contribution towards the successful conduct of the festival.
He appreciated the collective efforts of the local community, educational institutions, government departments and other stakeholders involved in the event.
The District Administration also acknowledged the enthusiastic participation of the residents, students, government officials, Ama Tsokspa and various departments in making the cleanliness campaign successful.
From Festival Celebrations to Swachhta Action!
The initiative highlighted the importance of responsible waste management and sustained community participation to keep Zanskar’s public spaces and tourist destinations clean, attractive and well-maintained.
