New Delhi, November 17, 2025: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, met senior officials of the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare in New Delhi to discuss pressing healthcare challenges in the district. He held detailed deliberations with Dr. Vinod Kotwal (IAS), Additional Secretary, MoHFW, and Ms. Aradhna Patnaik, Additional Secretary, National Health Mission (NHM).
During the meeting, Dr. Akhoon outlined several major gaps affecting healthcare delivery in Kargil and presented a set of key proposals aimed at strengthening infrastructure, manpower, and specialized services. He stressed the Council’s commitment to ensuring equitable and quality healthcare for the region’s remote and diverse population.
The CEC’s demands included the establishment of new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs/Sub-Centres in underserved areas, upgrading existing AAMs into Nursing & Paramedical Training Centres, and elevating select PHCs to Community Health Centres to improve secondary care. He also pressed for the upgradation of the AMT School into a Nursing College and the strengthening of District Hospital Kargil with modern infrastructure and advanced diagnostics.
A major proposal was the establishment of a Mini-AIIMS in Kargil to bring specialised, high-end medical care closer to the district. The CEC also sought the sanctioning of more ASHA worker posts to support community-level health outreach.
The Additional Secretaries gave a positive response, assuring that the concerns would be taken up on priority under the Ministry and NHM frameworks.
Dr. Akhoon expressed gratitude for their constructive engagement and reaffirmed LAHDC Kargil’s commitment to improving the district’s health ecosystem.
