LEH, September 26: In a unique initiative to promote sportsmanship and provide opportunities for youth in remote border areas, the Fire and Fury Corps, under Operation Sadbhavana, organised a football tournament for schoolchildren of the Changthang region.
The tournament, held from September 20 to 22, saw participation from 45 teams, including 21 girls’ teams, showcasing the growing enthusiasm for sports among young residents. Matches were played on the highest astro turf in the region, located at an altitude exceeding 14,000 feet, challenging participants to combine skill with stamina in the thin mountain air.
Officials noted that the event aimed to foster competitive spirit, teamwork, and discipline among the youth, while providing them a platform to showcase their talent in an environment often limited by geographical and infrastructural constraints. The tournament also highlighted the Army’s continued commitment to holistic community development in Ladakh, balancing operational responsibilities with outreach programmes that nurture education, sports, and overall well-being. \ The Dispatch Staff
