KARGIL: The three-day Emergency Critical Care Conference-cum-Workshop organized by the Department of Surgery, District Hospital Kargil and NQAS, in collaboration with the Department of Emergency Medicine, Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre (JPNATC), AIIMS New Delhi, concluded successfully today.
Held from August 16th to 18th, 2025, the event aimed to strengthen emergency and trauma care capabilities among medical professionals in Kargil.
Theme”Saving Lives When Every Second Counts,” the conference delivered intensive hands-on training in Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), enhancing critical care readiness among doctors and paramedics in the region.
Chairman cum Chief Executive Councillor, Dr. Mohd Jaffar Akhone, inaugurated the event, expressing deep appreciation to the AIIMS team for their dedication in imparting life-saving skills to local healthcare professionals.
He emphasized the importance of such initiatives, especially in geographically and climatically challenging regions like Kargil.
Guest of Honour, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shri Imteeaz Kacho, welcomed the visiting AIIMS delegates and assured full administrative support. Special guests included renowned local medical figures Dr. Kacho Mohd Hussain (Retired Senior Surgeon) and Dr. Manzoor Ul Mehdi (Senior Ophthalmologist), who lauded the initiative.
The workshop witnessed the participation of 46 doctors and 15 paramedics from District Hospital Kargil and other regional health centers.

The program was meticulously coordinated by Dr. Sajjad Hussain (Consultant Surgeon) and Dr. Shabbir Hussain (Head, NQAS), under the supervision of Dr. Mohd Abass, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Kargil.
The opening day included pre-conference assessments, detailed demonstrations on AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators), Code Blue simulations, and emergency scenario training. On the final day, participants engaged in condition-specific emergency care including management of Acute Coronary Syndrome, Stroke, Hypothermia, and High-Altitude Mountain Sickness, along with trauma simulations and hands-on e-FAST ultrasound techniques.
Certificates were awarded to all 60 delegates upon successful completion, and mementos were presented to the guests.
CEC Dr. Mohd Jaffar Akhone reiterated the district’s commitment to health sector advancements and highlighted ongoing efforts, including advocacy for a mini AIIMS in Kargil. He recognized District Hospital Kargil as a center that not only cares for patients but also plays a pivotal role in medical education.
Dr. Ankit Sahu, representing AIIMS, thanked the LAHDC, District Administration, and District Hospital for their hospitality, expressing hope that the skills imparted would significantly improve emergency care delivery in the region.
Dr. Mohd Abass commended the AIIMS team’s professionalism and dedication, reaffirming the hospital’s shared mission: “To save lives when every second counts.”
