Kargil: Director of Social & Tribal Welfare Department, UT Ladakh, Tashi Dolma (JKAS), chaired a review meeting at the Conference Hall, Baroo, Kargil, to assess the implementation and progress of the Mission Vatsalya Scheme.
The meeting focused on evaluating child welfare initiatives and identifying strategies for improved delivery of services.
District Child Protection Officer, Samina Khatoon (JKAS), gave a detailed presentation on child welfare schemes, sponsorship programs, support for children in need of care and protection, interventions for children in conflict with law, and financial components managed by the District Child Protection Unit.
Director Dolma emphasized the need for regular assessments, targeted interventions, and a coordinated approach to end child labour and child begging in the district.
She also reviewed the functioning of institutional mechanisms under Mission Vatsalya, including the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), Observation-cum-Special Home, Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA), Open Shelter, and Child Care Institutions (CCIs).
The meeting was attended by key officials and stakeholders, including Abdul Rahim, Program Manager UT Child Protection Society; Iftikhar Hussain and Nayeema Manzoor, Program Officers SARA Ladakh; Niyaz Ali, Chairperson CWC Kargil; Fatima Zahra, Accounts Assistant, Social & Tribal Welfare Ladakh; members of the CWC and JJB; superintendents of CCIs; and Mission Vatsalya coordinators.
The session concluded with a renewed pledge to strengthen efforts for safeguarding and promoting the rights and welfare of children in Kargil district.
