Leh: Ladakh took a significant step toward strengthening its healthcare system with the inauguration of the Ladakh Health Dialogue 2025 at the DC Office Conference Hall in Leh.
Themed “Haemophilia, Bleeding, Blood & Health for Health Care Providers,” the event focused on raising awareness about rare bleeding disorders and improving Ladakh’s healthcare readiness.
Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, attended the event as the Chief Guest.
In his address, he stressed the urgent need to identify haemophilia patients in Ladakh and increase public awareness about the life-threatening condition.
“Haemophilia is under-reported and dangerous. We must start identifying cases and explore issuing emergency ID cards to affected individuals,” he said, assuring the gathering that the matter would be taken up for immediate action.
Deputy Commissioner Leh, Romil Singh Donk (IAS), and Director Health Services, Dr. Tashi Thinless, were present as Special Guests. The event also welcomed leading experts from the Haemophilia Health Collective of North (HHCN), including Chairperson Dr. Naresh Gupta and President Dr. K.K. Kaul, who offered insights on the importance of diagnostics and local treatment infrastructure.
Dr. Kaul raised a vital point during his talk, questioning why remote regions like Ladakh could not have treatment centres if diagnostic services were already possible. He emphasized the need for building local capacity to support patients within the region.
The event began with a traditional lamp-lighting and the felicitation of dignitaries with khataks. Medical professionals from SNM Hospital, senior doctors from Ladakh, and students also participated in the dialogue.
During the technical session, experts explained the genetic basis of haemophilia and how a simple injury could be life-threatening for patients due to the lack of clotting factors. Clinical red flags, national statistics, and treatment protocols tailored for remote, high-altitude regions were discussed.
The dialogue ended with a vote of thanks from Dr. Varun Kaul, who applauded the efforts of LAHDC, UT administration, and all attending professionals for coming together to advance healthcare in Ladakh.
