Kargil: In a heartfelt interaction that underscored the need for inclusive education and infrastructure, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, met with parents and students with special needs at his office today. The meeting focused on the challenges faced by differently abled children in accessing education and receiving appropriate support in the school environment.
Parents shared their concerns about the lack of inclusive infrastructure and the emotional and logistical difficulties their children face within the existing educational framework. They called for urgent interventions to make schools more welcoming and equipped for specially abled students.
Responding with empathy and resolve, Dr. Akhoon assured the delegation that their concerns are being treated as a top priority. He emphasized his personal commitment to creating a more inclusive and accessible learning environment across Kargil.
In a major announcement, Dr. Akhoon revealed that a dedicated hostel for specially abled children is under construction near the Council Secretariat. With a sanctioned budget of ₹48.91 crore, the facility is designed to offer safe, accessible, and specialized accommodations tailored to the unique needs of differently abled students. He also announced that a special transport service will be launched to support these children once the hostel becomes operational.
To further strengthen the ecosystem of care and support, the CEC shared his plans to convene a high-level meeting involving the District Magistrate, Director of Social Welfare, Chief Medical Officers, and other senior officials. The objective is to develop a comprehensive support framework for specially abled children in the district.
The interaction marks a hopeful step forward in ensuring that every child in Kargil, regardless of ability, has the right to education, dignity, and opportunity.
