Leh, July 17: In a significant step toward enhancing sports facilities in Ladakh, key proposals for establishing the High Altitude National Centre for Excellence (HANCE) and the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) have been approved. The decision was made during a follow-up meeting chaired by LAHDC Leh Chief Executive Councillor Tashi Gyalson in his office chamber.
The meeting was attended by Manjushree Dayanand, Executive Director of SAI RC Chandigarh; Dr. Stanzin Thakchos, Officer on Special Duty to the Sports Secretary; and Ghulam Mustafa, Incharge of SAI STC Kargil.
During the meeting, officials reviewed the progress on the HANCE proposal, which had been earlier discussed and has now been forwarded to the SAI Operations Division at the Head Office in New Delhi. Discussions also focused on the operational cost and logistical framework required to make the centre fully functional.
The approval of both HANCE and KISCE proposals signals a strong commitment to developing Ladakh as a high-altitude hub for sports excellence. The upcoming centres are expected to play a pivotal role in training young athletes, hosting national-level camps, and promoting sports culture in the Union Territory.
This development not only aligns with the broader objectives of the Khelo India initiative but also positions Ladakh as a key destination for altitude-based sports training in India.
