Kargil: Continuing his public outreach tour across Kargil, Member of Parliament Haji Hanifa Jan visited several key villages in the Sankoo region on the fourth day of his engagement, reaffirming his commitment to inclusive and grassroots-driven development. He was accompanied by Area Councillor Syed Ahmed Rizvi, Councillor Umba Ghulam Haider, NC Vice President Syed Abass, and senior officials from the local administration.
The day began with a visit to the Astana of Aga Haider Razvi at Kusar, where the MP, along with Councillor Rizvi, offered *Fatiha* in remembrance of the revered spiritual leader. The MP then toured villages including Nangma Kusar, Khala Marpo, Chumikchan, Thangdumbur, Stakpa, and Umba, where he met with local residents, community leaders, and religious figures. Interactions took place at Anjuman Sahib Zaman and Maktab-e-Tableeghat Imam Raza, where the MP listened closely to public concerns and developmental needs.
Residents raised pressing issues such as the need for the Umbala Tunnel, improved road connectivity between Umba and Drass, upgradation of schools, the establishment of a Degree College and Community Health Centre in Sankoo, and delays in ongoing water supply projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Additional demands included a flood protection wall in Stakpa, a bridge at Yakza, solar-powered irrigation systems, and government support for women-led initiatives such as milk packaging units.
Responding to the public, MP Hanifa shared updates on regional development, noting that an Engineering College has already been announced for Kurbuthang and that a Medical College is being set up in Leh. He assured the public that key concerns raised during the visit—particularly regarding road infrastructure and irrigation—will be taken up with the concerned ministries and given due priority under schemes like PMGSY and other centrally sponsored programs. He also announced the upcoming development of a sports practice pitch for the local youth.
Highlighting tourism as a transformative sector, the MP urged communities to explore opportunities in adventure and border tourism. He emphasized that community-led planning and local entrepreneurship could play a major role in unlocking Sankoo’s potential. He added that the upcoming Suru Festival would provide a vibrant platform to promote the region’s cultural heritage and stimulate local economic growth.
The visit was marked by a strong sense of community connection, with residents expressing appreciation for the MP’s accessibility and on-the-ground approach.
