Kargil: The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad, successfully concluded a three-day Entrepreneurship Awareness Program (EAP) today at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Kargil, aimed at igniting the entrepreneurial spirit among the region’s youth.
Held from July 14 to 16, 2025, the program is part of a larger mission spearheaded by EDII under the guidance of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Chief Secretary Dr. Pawan Kotwal, and Secretary of Higher/Technical Education and Skill Development Smt. Bhanu Prabha, IAS. The initiative has been envisioned by Dr. Sunil Shukla, Director General of EDII, and Dr. Amit Kumar Dwivedi, Director – Projects (Government), EDII.
Focused on introducing the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, the program covered key areas such as ideation, business planning, branding, financial literacy, and government schemes. Sessions were conducted by expert mentors, subject specialists, local entrepreneurs, and EDII faculty members, creating a dynamic and interactive learning environment.
The program opened with insightful sessions on innovation and startup development by Mr. Abhishake Nandan, Ms. Padma Lhazes, and Ms. Fariha Fatima from EDII Ahmedabad. On the second day, Mr. Sayed Hadi delivered a powerful talk on the opportunities in the handloom sector, encouraging students to explore traditional crafts with a business mindset. Ms. Fariha Fatima followed with a hands-on workshop on branding and sustainable packaging, while a competitive “Startup Quiz” led by Ms. Lhazes energized the participants.
The final day featured a session by Mr. Mudassir Rauf Wani, Functional Manager at DIC Kargil, who outlined various central government schemes including PMEGP and PMFME. Local entrepreneur Ms. Praveen Akhtar also joined the program, sharing her journey in food processing and soap-making, offering students a real-world view of enterprise development in Ladakh.
As part of the program, students presented their business ideas before the mentor panel. Three standout participants — Ms. Sajida Bano, Mr. Hamid, and Ms. Zakia Bano — were felicitated for their innovative concepts. Concluding the event, ITI Kargil’s In-charge Superintendent Ms. Hajira Bano and Nodal Officer Ms. Shahr Bano praised the enthusiasm of the students and urged them to embrace entrepreneurship as a means to shape their future and contribute to Ladakh’s economic growth.
