Leh: CEC Tashi Gyalson appreciated Cipla Foundation’s commitment to enhancing healthcare in Ladakh and assured the visiting delegation of LAHDC Leh’s full support in implementing the proposed palliative care initiative at SNM Hospital. He confirmed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will soon be signed between Cipla Foundation and LAHDC Leh to formalize the partnership, following which a dedicated palliative care unit will be made operational.
Earlier in the day, Cipla Foundation representatives, led by Medical Superintendent of SNM Hospital, Rinchen Chosdol, called on the CEC to discuss plans for upgrading the existing palliative care services. The visiting delegation included Anurag Mishra, Head of Cipla Foundation; Dr. Prakash Fernandes, Head of Palliative Partnerships; Dr. Monisha Ahmad from Cipla; and District Health Officer, Dr. Yangchan Dolma.
During the meeting, the delegation underlined the importance of creating a structured, compassionate, and comprehensive care environment for patients dealing with serious illnesses. They emphasized that palliative care should address not just physical symptoms, but also the psychological and emotional wellbeing of patients.
As part of the initial rollout, the Cipla Foundation will depute one doctor and two nurses specifically for palliative care at SNM Hospital. The goal is to lay the foundation for a dedicated and accessible long-term care setup in Leh, improving the overall quality of life for patients and their families.
The CEC welcomed the collaboration and reiterated that healthcare remains a top priority for the Council. The proposed unit is expected to be a significant step forward in delivering patient-centered, dignified care for those in need.
