Kargil: To mark World Population Day, the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Kargil organized an awareness programme at Government Model Middle School (MMS) Chutuk. The event aimed to sensitize students and the community about the growing challenges of population expansion and its socio-economic implications.
The programme saw active participation from students, with 46 students taking part in a painting competition and 35 students expressing their thoughts in an essay writing competition. These creative platforms allowed students to reflect on critical issues related to population growth and sustainability.
S. D. Namgyal, Principal, DIET Kargil, attended the event as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized the importance of observing World Population Day and underlined the pressing need to raise public awareness about population-related challenges and their direct impact on development and the environment. He further encouraged the students to act as ambassadors of awareness in their communities.
A student from MMS Chutuk delivered a compelling presentation focusing on the population growth rate in Ladakh and its effects on regional concerns such as unemployment and limited resources. The talk was well received by the audience, which included teachers, parents, and local residents.
To support and encourage the young participants, DIET Kargil provided painting materials and refreshments to all attendees. The programme concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, recognizing the winners and commendable participants of both competitions.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Mr. Ghulam Nabi, Headmaster of MMS Chutuk, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to DIET Kargil for organizing such an impactful and educational event, and for fostering awareness and creativity among students.
