LEH: In a serious violation of environmental and legal norms, an Indian tourist has been booked under Sections 125 and 292 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 for dangerously riding a motorcycle in restricted and ecologically sensitive zones of Pangong Lake and the Nubra sand dunes in Ladakh.
According to officials, the tourist was found performing reckless bike stunts in areas where such activities are strictly prohibited due to their ecological fragility and environmental sensitivity. These zones are vital to Ladakh’s unique landscape, and any disturbance poses a serious threat to the delicate Himalayan ecosystem.
The case has been registered under Section 125 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) and Section 292 (Acts endangering environment and public safety) of BNS 2023, reflecting the seriousness of the offence.
Authorities have reiterated their appeal to all visitors to respect local laws, ecological guidelines, and cultural sensitivities while exploring Ladakh. The region’s fragile ecosystem is under increasing stress due to unregulated tourism and irresponsible behavior.
“This incident should serve as a reminder that Ladakh is not just a tourist destination but a living, breathing ecological zone that must be preserved for future generations,” an official stated.
