Leh: A significant preparatory meeting for the International Tipitaka Chanting Ceremony (ITCC) 2025 was successfully held at the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC) in Leh.
The meeting marked an important step toward organizing one of the world’s most revered international Buddhist events, which seeks to bring together the global Sangha in the land of the Buddha.
Set in the spiritually vibrant environment of Ladakh, the meeting brought together senior monks and members of the Organising Committee.
Bhikkhu Sanghasena, President of ITCC India 2025 and Founder of MIMC, welcomed the participants and underscored the deeper purpose of the ceremony. He noted that ITCC is more than a ceremonial gathering — it is a spiritual movement that unites monastic and lay communities across nations in the shared pursuit of wisdom, peace, and enlightenment.
The International Tipitaka Chanting Ceremony, now entering its 20th year, was first envisioned by Ms. Wangmo Dixit and her father, Terthang Tulku Rinpoche.
Their goal was to reunite the Theravāda Sangha under the Bodhi Tree in Bodh Gaya, the place of the Buddha’s enlightenment. Over the years, the event has grown into a major spiritual initiative, drawing monks and devotees from countries such as Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Nepal, Bangladesh, Singapore, Indonesia, and India.
India has been chosen as the host country for ITCC 2025, and Bhikkhu Sanghasena has been appointed its President. A dedicated disciple of the late Most Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita, Bhikkhu Sanghasena is widely respected for his lifelong service in promoting the Dhamma and uplifting underprivileged communities in the Himalayas.
The meeting saw the participation of several senior monks and international delegates. While some attended in person at MIMC, others, including Ms. Wangmo Dixit, joined virtually and contributed their insights. Discussions covered a wide range of topics including logistics, international coordination, ceremonial planning, and the deeper spiritual intent of the event.
Bhikkhu Sanghasena emphasized that ITCC 2025 should serve as a sacred offering to the Buddha and a spiritual call to reawaken the Dhamma in its birthplace. He said the goal is not only to preserve the ancient chanting tradition but also to create a collective spiritual experience that strengthens global Buddhist unity.
The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of purpose, with all participants committing to work with cooperation, discipline, and deep spiritual resolve to make ITCC 2025 a transformative experience for all. The gathering at MIMC served as a meaningful beginning to a historic event that aims to carry forward the timeless message of the Buddha to the world.
