Leh: Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam, Leh, on Tuesday felicitated Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena, Everest climber Abida Afreen, several public servants, and meritorious students during a special ceremony held at the Himalayan Information and Learning Centre.
The event was organised to honour individuals who have made significant contributions in their fields and have brought pride to the community through service, achievement, and dedication.
Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena, Founder of the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre, was recognised for his decades-long humanitarian service, peace-building initiatives, and spiritual leadership in Ladakh and beyond. His efforts in promoting interfaith harmony, education, and social welfare have left a profound impact on the region.
Young mountaineer Abida Afreen, who recently made Ladakh proud by successfully summiting Mount Everest, was felicitated for her extraordinary achievement and perseverance. Her success story stands as an inspiration for youth, particularly girls, across Ladakh.
Among the public servants honoured were Naib Tehsildar Attaullah, who was appreciated for his commitment to public service and administrative efficiency, and Girdawar Gonbo Dorjay, acknowledged for his dedication to serving the people with sincerity and diligence.
The event also celebrated the academic excellence of meritorious students from the community. Certificates, awards, and cash prizes were presented by Dr. Abdul Qayoum, President of Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam, as a token of encouragement and appreciation. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Qayoum praised the awardees for their efforts and called on the youth to remain grounded, hardworking, and committed to contributing positively to society.
