Kargil: Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan, who is on a tour to Srinagar Monday inspected various assets of LAHDC Kargil, visited Girls Hostel Nowshera, Boys Hostel Bemina and Kargil House Bemina.
He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner/CEO LAHDC Kargil, Santosh Sukhadeve, Superintending Engineer PWD, Executive Engineer (R&B 2nd), Assistant Executive Engineer (Procurement) and Accounts Officer to DC Kargil.
During the visit to the Girls Hostel Nowshehra, the CEC was informed that the hostel had a roll of just 36 students. The place was found to be unsuitable for students as there is no scope for further expansion of the building furthermore the building was originally designed as a patient sarai.
Khan said there has been a growing demand of serious nature pertaining to the accommodation of Kargil patients who come to the SKIMS Srinagar (Soura) for treatment purpose.
At the spot, the CEC advised the DC/CEO and the SE PWD to formulate plans for re-instating the original purpose of the building i.e. to convert the building into a patient sarai.
He also advised the DC Kargil to cease further admission for students in the hostel and help the incumbent inmates to find accommodations in their respective college hostels.
The CEC stated that if there is a demand LAHDC Kargil will request the UT administration to approach J&K UT for allotment of land for the construction of Kargil Girls Hostel in Srinagar.
Khan later visited the Kargil Boys Hostel Bemina where 45 students are housed. On enquiring about the need to construct an additional floor for accommodating more students, CEC was informed that post reorganization of J&K and due to the application of domicile laws for admission in colleges of Kashmir, the hostel is receiving less queries for admission.
Meanwhile, the students requested the CEC for a library, water purifier and minor repairs. Assuring the students that their demands would be met within the shortest possible time, the CEC directed the SE PWD to do the needful at the earliest.
The CEC was also informed that an amount of Rs 250 was charged per student in addition to the mess fees which is used for maintenance and minor repairs of the hostel. The CEC Khan directed to utilize the funds collected from students magazines, journals, newspapers and internet for the students in the hostel while the maintenance and minor repairs would be taken care by PWD Kargil.
CEC Khan also visited the under-construction building block of Kargil House at Bemina and inspected the ongoing work. The CEC was informed on the site that the building will be complete in all respect within two months. Once the new block is completed, the old block would be dismantled and converted into a green space.
The new building block of Kargil House is being built at a cost of Rs 7.89 crores out of which Rs 5.50 crores stands allocated under Special Development Package. The CEC instructed the concerned officers to ensure that the work is completed within the stipulated period of time.
