Leh: Stage is all set for the artisans as well as craftspeople to showcase their talent in 4th Edition of Enchanting Ladakh at Dilli Haat beginning from Jan 1.
An exhibition-cum sale shall be held showcasing the arts, handicrafts, handloom & food products by artisans & craftspeople of Kargil & Leh, followed by live cultural programme every evening.
The 15 day long even will began on January 1 and culminate on Jan 15.
“Around 100 entrepreneurs and self help groups will showcase their products from all sectors for 15 days.”an official told IndusDispatch.
He informed that the Industries Deptt of Ladakh will allot them shops at the Dilli haat and will also pay for their boarding lodging and air fares.
Moreover, Ladakhi Cultural shows will also take place for all of those 15 days.
In this regard, Divisional Commissioner & Commissioner Secretary Industries and Commerce, Ladakh, Saugat Biswas chaired meeting of the department to review the preparation.
“Enchanting Ladakh’22 to see vigorous participation by artisans/entrepreneurs Industries & Commerce Dept. Ladakh prepare enthusiastically for the mega-event at Dilli Haat from 1st till 15th January’23. Secy Saugat Biswas reviews preparation,” the department wrote on twitter handle.
Sources informed Indus Dispatch, that the department will display Thangka Painting during the event.
“Thangka painting is another specialty of Ladakhi art forms. The painters mostly use embroidered silk cloth to enhance durability. You can roll the light painted cloth for a convenient storage and portability. The monks mostly use these paintings as a teaching tool. Tn addition, commoners and monks paint the murals in the gompas (buddhist temples). These murals describe the various aspects of Buddhism,” they said.
They added that the department is also mulling to wood carving. “Interiors of the monasteries is the best example of the Ladakhi tradition of carving wood. An amalgamation of the eight Buddhist symbols, floral motifs, auspicious animals can be found frequently carved upon tables, linings above the traditional windows, pillars and banisters,” they said.
They added that sculptures will also be part of the event.
