Leh: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson presided over the inaugural session of the two-days All-Gobas (Lambardars) meeting in Leh today.

CEC Gyalson in the presence of the officials of NGOs including Snow Leopard Conservancy India Trust, Nature Conservation Foundation, Local Futures, and LAMO released the study report on the ‘Goba of Ladakh’ prepared by researchers Ashish and Shristi from Kalpavriksh organisation.

Ashish and Shristi gave a detailed presentation and outcomes from their study report on the traditional customary governance ‘Goba’ system in Leh Ladakh. They further highlighted the need for strengthening the existing ‘Goba’ system in Ladakh.

While addressing the gathering, CEC Tashi Gyalson stated that the current village-level local governance system is an integral part of democracy and there is a need for reformation and clarity in their roles within the system.

He also stated that the traditional systems must be strengthened regarding the local ecosystem and major concerns keeping in view the fragile environment of Ladakh. He assured that the Hill Council would definitely work on the constructive feedback and recommendations from the stakeholders and from the study reports.

Director SLC-IT, Field Coordinator NCF Ladakh, Director LAMO, and Gobas from different villages of the district attended the meeting.
