Leh: According to the World Health Organisation – Countries need to know how many people are born and die each year – and the main causes of their deaths – in order to have well-functioning health systems. The only way to count everyone and to track all births and deaths is through civil registration. Civil registration provides the basis for individual legal identity but also allows countries to identify their most pressing health issues.
Along the lines of the requirement of civil registration, UT Administration is going to conduct a training programme for the officers and officials of Urban Local Bodies, Health services, Municipal Committee departments, and all Block Medical Officers of Leh on 6th September and at Kargil on 8th September, 2022.
Principal Secretary Health & Medical Education Department UT Ladakh and Chief Registrar, Registration of Birth and Deaths Dr Pawan Kotwal convened a review meeting to assess the progress in this direction.
Dr Kotwal stressed that these are the legal documents as per the prescribed norms of the Act of Government of India, and every birth and death registration must be updated in a week’s time at the latest to avoid any further delay.
After a detailed discussion, Dr Kotwal gave directions to the concerned officers of the Health and Municipality Departments to ensure a proper training programme and ensure hands-on training of the officials.
The meeting was attended by the Director Urban Local Bodies, Director Health Services, Director Planning PD&MD, Chief Medical Officer Leh and Kargil, Executive Officer MC Leh and Kargil, and Block Medical Officers of Leh and Kargil. All the officers of Kargil and Block Medical Officers attended the meeting virtually.
