Padum, August 2: In a significant step towards strengthening policing and public service delivery in the newly created District Zanskar, the Director General of Police (DGP), UT Ladakh, concluded his maiden two-day official visit by inaugurating the newly established District Police Office (DPO) at Padum and reviewing the overall law and order situation in the region.
The DGP was accorded a warm traditional welcome upon his arrival and was received by the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, public representatives, religious leaders, political leaders, and local residents. During the inauguration ceremony, a ceremonial Guard of Honour was presented before the ribbon-cutting of the new District Police Office.
Addressing representatives of religious organisations, public bodies, and civil society, the DGP congratulated the people on the creation of the new district, stating that the establishment of a dedicated District Police Office would strengthen policing, improve public service delivery, enhance law enforcement, and ensure better coordination with the civil administration. He reaffirmed Ladakh Police’s commitment to professional, people-friendly, and efficient policing.
During the visit, SP Zanskar Rigzin Sangdup presented a detailed review of the district’s law and order scenario, crime trends, cybercrime preparedness, traffic management, drug menace, manpower, infrastructure, and operational challenges.
At a Public Darbar held at Police Station Zanskar, representatives of religious organisations, women’s groups, traders, transporters, social organisations, and local residents appreciated Ladakh Police for maintaining communal harmony and taking firm action against drug trafficking. They sought enhanced security for monasteries and pledged full cooperation in the fight against drug abuse through community participation and awareness campaigns.
The DGP assured stakeholders that Ladakh Police would continue working closely with the public to eliminate the drug menace and ensure a safe environment for the youth. He also conducted a comprehensive inspection of Police Station Zanskar, reviewing investigation standards, CCTNS operations, cybercrime investigations, grievance redressal mechanisms, and overall police station functioning. He directed officers to strengthen technology-driven policing, improve investigations, and reinforce the beat system.
The DGP also interacted with police personnel during a welfare darbar, reviewed the progress of the under-construction police station building, and instructed the executing agency to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining quality standards.
The visit concluded with an inspection of Police Check Post Kargyak, where the DGP interacted with local villagers, camp owners, and police personnel to discuss security, tourism safety, road connectivity, and community policing.
The maiden visit underscored Ladakh Police’s commitment to strengthening policing infrastructure, improving police-public relations, ensuring lasting peace and communal harmony, and supporting the overall development of the newly created District Zanskar.
