Leh: The Government Degree College, Nubra organised a four day study tour to western Ladakh from June 13 to 16 under the guidance and support of Principal, GDC Nubra, Dr Tsewang Motup.
The study tour was jointly organised by the Tour and Picnic Committee of GDC Nubra with the Department of Botany, Zoology, Environmental Science and History.
A total of 33 students from Science and Social Science Departments along with six faculty members including, Assistant Professor, Environmental Science, Tsewang Lhamo; Assistant Professor, Botany, Dr Tsetan Dolker; Assistant Professor, Political Science, Sabah Sharif; Assistant Professor, Sociology, Dr Stanzin Namgail; Dr Azhar Hussain from History Department, Dr Meraj Uddin from Zoology Department along with one attendant and college’s bus driver were part of this study tour.
The route for the tour was Nubra-Sham- Aryan Valley-Lalung Silmo-Kargil-Mulbek and back to Nubra.
During the tour, the subject experts shared their valuable knowledge with the students at the different sites.
Students were benefited with direct/onsite exposure with nature and historical site during the tour, such as identification and collection of different indigenous plant species of Ladakh at different location and how to prepare a Herbarium for further studies; visiting the different historical site like Alchi monastery, Rock art site at Takmachik village and Mulbekh Chamba. The students also got a first hand knowledge on the working of Nimoo- Basgo Hydel Project, different farming practices like drip irrigation, mulching, terrace farming and other water harvesting techniques as well as role of temperature and gradient on the availability of vegetation and fruit crops.
