New Delhi, Feb 22: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri Kavinder Gupta, on Saturday said that Hindi reflects India’s traditions, values and cultural continuity, asserting that language forms the foundation of intellectual self-reliance and national confidence.
Addressing the International Hindi Olympiad – Prize Distribution and Amrit Kumbh Samman Ceremony 2026 organised by the Hindi Olympiad Foundation at the India International Centre, the LG described the event as a “Mahakumbh of linguistic awareness” in the era of globalization.
He said Hindi is not merely a medium of communication but a living expression of India’s civilizational consciousness. Emphasising linguistic confidence, he noted that thinking and innovating in one’s mother tongue strengthens both individual self-belief and national character.
Referring to Swami Vivekananda, the LG said he regarded Hindi (Hindustani) as a link language for national unity. He also recalled how former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee elevated Hindi’s global stature by addressing international forums in the language.
Shri Gupta said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is carrying forward that legacy by promoting Hindi on global platforms. He cited the Prime Minister’s address at the India AI Summit in Hindi as a powerful message that India blends tradition with technological leadership.
Highlighting Ladakh’s multilingual fabric, the LG said Hindi serves as a bridge connecting the Union Territory with the national mainstream while complementing regional languages like Ladakhi, Balti and Purigi. He urged expansion of Hindi into science, technology, AI, research and digital innovation.
During the ceremony, achievers of the International Hindi Olympiad were felicitated with the Amrit Kumbh Samman. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and the National Anthem.
