Kargil, February 18, 2026: The 17th CEC Ice Hockey Championship 2026 concluded with great enthusiasm at the Ice Hockey Rink, Biamathang, with Drass Warriors clinching the men’s title in a commanding 3–0 victory over Shakar Chiktan Red in the final.
Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Haji Mohd Hanifa Jan, attended the closing ceremony as Chief Guest. Executive Councillor Kacho Mohd Feroz was the Guest of Honour, while Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Imteeaz Kacho graced the occasion as Special Guest.
A host of dignitaries, including district officers and sports officials, were present to witness the thrilling finale of the championship, which saw participation from 29 men’s teams and 4 women’s teams across Kargil district.
In the women’s category, Kargil Women Ice Hockey Foundation emerged as winners, while Ice Hockey Association (Women) secured the runner-up position.
Addressing the gathering, MP Hanifa Jan stated that Ladakh is steadily emerging as a winter sports hub due to the consistent efforts of the UT Administration and the Hill Councils. He highlighted the ongoing development of sports infrastructure aligned with the region’s immense winter sports potential and assured that the genuine demands submitted by the Ice Hockey Association Kargil would be taken up for necessary action.
The championship was organised by the Youth Services & Sports (YSS) Kargil in collaboration with the Ice Hockey Association Kargil under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar (IAS).
During the prize distribution ceremony, trophies were awarded to the winning and runner-up teams, while volunteers and technical officials were honoured with mementoes for their dedicated efforts in successfully conducting the championship despite rising temperatures.
The successful conclusion of the 17th CEC Ice Hockey Championship reaffirmed Kargil’s strong sporting culture and its growing prominence in winter sports at the national level.
