Leh, Feb 18: In a major push to strengthen rural livelihoods, Assistant Commissioner Development Leh A G Zargar inaugurated the Gram Dukan at Thiksay Block under the aegis of the Ladakh Rural Livelihood Mission.
Supported by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, the newly established outlet — named “3STAR Craft Corner” — aims to provide a dedicated marketplace for Self Help Group (SHG) members to showcase and sell their locally produced goods.
The initiative seeks to promote local entrepreneurship, particularly women-led enterprises, while ensuring better market access, fair pricing and improved income opportunities for SHG members of Thiksay Block.
🌾 Local SHG Products on Display:
Handmade woollens including traditional Ladakhi caps, mufflers, socks, gloves and shawls crafted from locally sourced wool
Apricot-based products such as apricot oil, dried apricots, jams and juices
Traditional food items like roasted barley flour (tsampa), butter tea ingredients, pickles and organic pulses
Handicrafts and souvenirs including eco-friendly bags, hand-embroidered items and cultural decor pieces
Organic products such as herbal teas, sea buckthorn items and naturally grown vegetables
Officials described the Gram Dukan as a significant step toward self-reliance and women empowerment in rural Ladakh, reflecting strong convergence between financial institutions and livelihood missions to promote inclusive and sustainable development.
