New Delhi, 07/01/2026:
A delegation of BJP leaders from Ladakh, led by BJP State President Shri Tashi Gyaltson Khachu, along with Former CEC, LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson and Nominated Councillor Advocate Reyaz Ahmad Khan, called on the Hon’ble Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Shri J.P. Nadda Ji, in New Delhi.
During the meeting, the delegation highlighted key issues affecting the healthcare sector in the Union Territory of Ladakh and urged for early intervention to ensure timely and effective delivery of medical services in the region. They expressed concern over delays in the operationalization of major health institutions, including the Medical College, proposed Nursing College, State Allied Health Care Council (SAHCC), and the State AIDS Control Society (SACS).
The leaders stressed that the Medical College in Ladakh should be made functional at the earliest, even through temporary or makeshift arrangements, on the lines of certain medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir, until permanent infrastructure and full manpower are put in place. This, they said, would help avoid further delays in medical education and improve access to specialist healthcare for the people of Ladakh.
The delegation also sought approval for the establishment of a Nursing College in the Union Territory to strengthen allied health manpower and support hospitals and medical institutions. They further emphasized the need for early formation of the State Allied Health Care Council to regulate and promote allied health professionals.
Raising another important concern, the delegation pointed out that Ladakh does not have an independent State AIDS Control Society and that existing ICTCs are functioning under the J&K AIDS Control Society. They demanded the creation of a dedicated SACS for Ladakh to effectively implement HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness programmes.
The issue of non-availability of the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) was also taken up. The delegation urged for the establishment of a CGHS Wellness Centre in Leh and/or Kargil, stating that its absence causes serious inconvenience to Central Government employees, pensioners, and their dependent family members posted in the region.
Additionally, the delegation sought support for the Al-Reza Medical Wing of Islamia School, Kargil, informing the Union Minister that several doctors are voluntarily providing healthcare services to the needy under this charitable initiative.
Union Health Minister Shri J.P. Nadda Ji gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured them that the issues raised would be examined sympathetically to strengthen healthcare facilities in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
