Leh: Murgi village in Nubra Valley organised its Annual Archery Tournament along with the inauguration of the Zimshung Project, valued at ₹25 lakh, reflecting a blend of traditional sporting culture and local development initiatives. The event was held under the guidance of the Guru Sarjang Committee and witnessed enthusiastic participation from across Nubra Valley.
Around 35 archery teams from different parts of the valley took part in the tournament, highlighting the region’s strong sporting spirit and deep-rooted tradition of archery. Tsering Sandup, District President BJP Nubra and former Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and formally inaugurated the Zimshung Project.
In the welcome address, the Vice President of the Guru Sarjang Committee expressed gratitude to Tsering Sandup for his contributions during his tenure as Councillor and extended a warm welcome to the guests, participants, and villagers.
Addressing the gathering, Tsering Sandup lauded the archers of Nubra Valley for preserving and promoting the traditional sport of archery. He noted that several archers from the region have represented India in international competitions held in Malaysia and South Korea in recent years, underscoring Nubra’s growing presence on the global sporting stage. He also congratulated the people of Murgi village for successfully organising the annual tournament.
During his address, Tsering Sandup congratulated the residents of the Siachen Belt, particularly those from Murgi, Kuri, Charasa, and Burma villages, on the sanctioning of the long-pending Shatse Taknak Bridge project, worth ₹93.64 crore, under the CRIF scheme. Describing the bridge as a historic achievement and a lifeline for the region, he said the project would significantly enhance connectivity, boost socio-economic development, and facilitate strategic movement in the area.
Reiterating his commitment to the overall development of Murgi village and the wider Nubra region, Tsering Sandup assured continued efforts towards infrastructure development and community welfare.
The General Secretary of the Guru Sarjang Committee presented the vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to the Chief Guest, other dignitaries, participants, organisers, and villagers for their support in making the event a grand success.
Later, the Chief Guest distributed prizes to the winning teams and outstanding individual scorers. Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Tondup Namgail, Youth President, LBA Nubra; Tsewang Dorjay, Nambardar of Panamik Halqa; and Everester Tsering Angchuk, retired Indian Army and Honorary Captain.
