Leh: The Central Government has restored financial powers to the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, authorising approval of appraisal and sanction of development projects costing up to ₹100 crore under the Delegation of Financial Powers Rules (DFPRs), 2024.

According to an official order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the delegation applies to Union Territories without legislatures, including Ladakh. The powers will enable the LG to approve projects up to ₹100 crore, subject to mandatory consultation with the Secretary (Finance) or Financial Adviser of the UT, availability of adequate budgetary provisions, and adherence to prescribed financial norms.

The order clarifies that the delegated powers cannot be further re-delegated. Details of all proposals approved under these powers will have to be submitted to the Department of Expenditure through the MHA on a quarterly basis.

The Centre said the decision has been taken to strengthen administrative efficiency and ensure faster appraisal and execution of development projects. The move is expected to significantly speed up decision-making and implementation of key infrastructure and public welfare initiatives, particularly in Ladakh’s remote and border areas.

The delegation of powers has been issued with the approval of the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, and supersedes earlier related orders.
