LG R K Mathur for integrating divyangs into mainstream society

LEH: Highlighting the efforts being made by the administration and both Hill Councils to integrate children with disabilities into the mainstream schools, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, R K Mathur on Sunday emphasised the importance of including divyangs into the mainstream society.

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh said this while attending the distribution ceremony of prosthesis and appliances to 1,000 persons as a part of the 3rd mobility camp organised by Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC), Leh in collaboration with Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust and Rotary International District 3141 & 3070, Mumbai in Choglamsar.

LG Mathur emphasised the importance of including divyangs into the mainstream society and the efforts being made by the administration and both Hill Councils to integrate children with disabilities into the mainstream schools.

He shared the initiatives taken by the administration and both the Hill Councils for the benefit of the divyangs, viz. enumeration of PwDs from Ladakh to provide Unique Disability ID (UDID) to them, a policy for the benefit of the divyangs, ongoing works to make all government buildings accessible to divyangs, providing different assistive devices to PwDs, etc.

LG Ladakh further appreciated MIMC Leh led by Ven Sanghasena for contributions for the benefit of PwDs, providing education to underprivileged students from remote areas of Ladakh and taking care of the elderly people at their old age home.

He also appreciated Ven Sanghasena for his vision of making Ladakh the spiritual hub of the country. He appreciated Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust and Rotary International for their charitable works for the benefit of the divyangs.

LG Mathur distributed certificates of appreciation to Chunzin Angmo and Stanzin Chuskit, who are visually impaired and physically disabled, respectively, for their accomplishments.

Later, he distributed mobility aid and assistive devices such as crutches, wheelchairs, hearing aid and artificial limbs to the beneficiaries.

Chairman LAHDC Leh, advocate Tashi Gyalson; member of parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal; commissioner secretary Padma Angmo founder MIMC, Ven Sanghasena; Rtn DG Rajendra Agarwal and Trustee, Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust, Mumbai, Rajiv Mehta were present during the event.

Earlier, LG Mathur laid the foundation stone for the Himalayan High-Altitude Library at the Buddha Park and also inaugurated the New Library at the Mahabodhi Residential School.
