Leh: Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta emphasized comprehensive development focused on empowering rural women, ensuring full welfare scheme coverage, and improving infrastructure throughout Ladakh.
At a review meeting at the LG Secretariat, Kavinder directed promotion of Self-Help Groups through training in business models, product packaging, and marketing. He urged showcasing SHG products at platforms like airports to help rural women become financially independent as ‘Lakhpati Didis’.
Kavinder assessed progress across departments including Law & Justice, Social & Tribal Welfare, Rural Development, IT, and Disaster Management. Officials reported ongoing projects like legal aid services, Anganwadi and nutrition schemes, rural development programs, mobile connectivity expansion, and disaster response improvements.
Stressing no eligible beneficiary should be left out, Kavinder called for maximum registration under Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission to build a strong digital health ecosystem, applauding plans to increase awareness across Ladakh.
He ordered surveys to identify disabled children for targeted benefits and recommended genetic counseling to address risks from consanguineous marriages. Highlighting administrative shortages, Kavinder suggested promoting Panchayat Inspector Grade I officers to BDO posts.
He stressed improved solid and wastewater management for a healthy Ladakh and called for inter-department convergence on watershed projects. Telecom companies were urged to meet deadlines for full mobile connectivity.
Delegations from the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, Handloom Department job aspirants, and ‘Team Stringmo’ artists also met Kavinder, seeking support for regulated mountaineering, inclusion in recruitment, and art initiatives.
Representatives from Ibex Colony and film producer George Odpal also met Kavinder to discuss local matters.
Kavinder reiterated the administration’s commitment to effective welfare dissemination, economic empowerment, and improving the quality of life for all Ladakh residents.
