Ladakh UT Hikes Dearness Allowance for 6th Pay Commission Employees

LEH: In a welcome move for government employees, the Union Territory administration of Ladakh has announced a 6% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for those drawing salaries under the 6th Central Pay Commission (CPC). The DA has been increased from 246% to 252% of the basic pay, bringing relief to a section of employees amid rising living costs.

The decision, announced by the Finance Department of Ladakh, is based on the Office Memorandum issued by the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, Government of India on April 2, 2025. The revised rates will be implemented retrospectively from January 1, 2025.

“Dearness Allowance payable to the employees of Union Territory of Ladakh continuing to draw pay in the scale/grade pay as per 6th CPC shall be enhanced from the existing 246% to 252% of basic pay,” the official order stated.

While most government employees have transitioned to the 7th Pay Commission structure, this revision ensures that those still drawing salary under the 6th CPC are not left behind, especially in a geographically remote and climatically harsh region like Ladakh where cost of living remains high.

The DA hike is expected to benefit a considerable number of employees in the UT and is seen as a part of the administration’s effort to maintain parity with central government announcements and address inflation concerns.
