The Municipal Committees in Leh and Kargil have been working tirelessly for the welfare of the residents, even as they are making huge efforts at the efficient and successful implementation of Central schemes, ever since the formation of Ladakh UT.
With an aim to ensure housing for all, the Municipal Committees have been working in a mission mode for successful implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana programme launched by the Ministry of housing and urban affairs, an official informed Indus Dispatch.
“Under the beneficiary led construction (BLC) component, we have identified 943 beneficiaries for construction of houses. Of these, 438 houses have been constructed and completed, while as many as 494 houses are at different stages of construction. The construction work on 11 houses is yet to start,” he said.
The Committees are also committed for the welfare of the poor section of the society and have successfully launched PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) program in the UT, to provide affordable working capital loan to street vendors to resume their livelihoods affected due to COVID-19 lockdown.
“The Committees have identified and distributed identity cards and certificates to 326 beneficiaries. A total of Rs 30 Crore was disbursed to beneficiaries to improve their livelihood,” said the official, adding that the scheme is available till December 2024.
The Ladakh UT figures at the top among the states and UTs on PM SVANidhi portal in socio economic profiling, with 100% coverage, even as SVANidhi Maha Utsav was also celebrated.
The two committees have extended a number of online services on e-seva portal like issuance of birth and death registration, trade certificates, rent collection etc.
The Municipal Committee Leh has linked 192 women with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana- National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM). Solar power-based Solid Waste Management Plant of Leh is mentioned in NITI Aayog’s waste-wise cities’ best practices in municipal solid waste management’s Technological Innovation category.
The Municipal Committee Kargil has also made significant progress under the credit linked subsidy scheme (CLSS) component. As many as 86 loan cases were sponsored and 65 loan cases were sanctioned by banks.
