“In one decade of pre–UT Period between 2008-2018 only 2,800 jobs to youth were provided but after Ladakh become UT 1,761 jobs to youth were provided,” LG Mathur said. “A total of 3,977 jobs has either been provided or are currently in the process since the formation of Ladakh as a Union Territory,” he said after distributing appointment letters to six youth from Ladakh who were selected for the posts of Constable (General Duty) in ITBP in the recruitment drive conducted by Staff Selection Commission (SSC), at Kumbha Hall, ITBF Leh.

He further informed that the recruitment for gazetted posts will be expedited after the consent from Govt of India.

He also said that Ladakh faced various challenges after the formation of Union Territory, including the long and tedious exercise of apportionment of posts and manpower, reservation of posts for the reserved category, defining resident criteria, drafting of recruitment rules for all departments, etc.

“Despite needing to start everything from scratch, the UT Administration and the Hill Councils and Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) have completed the background work to address the employment issues,” he said.  He also said that efforts are being made to fill all the vacant posts.

LG Mathur informed that the gvernemtn has taken intiatives  to create jobs and develop skills of new start-ups and entrepreneurs in the primary sector.

He stated that many youth from Ladakh are engaged in economic activities. He added that youth have set up their own enterprises and units in different fields like pashmina, sea buckthorn, fisheries, homestays and floriculture.

He also stated that government jobs along with economic activities will enable to address the unemployment issues.

He further added that the recruitment processes initiated through Union Public Service Commission, SSC and District Subordinate Services Recruitment Board (DSSRB), would enable to achieve the target set by the Hon’ble Prime Minister to provide jobs to 10 lakh youth.

Congratulating the six new appointees – Rigzin Angmo, Stanzin Noryang, Stanzin Yountan, Stanzin Dolma, Sonam Stobgais and Nawang Stanzin, LG Mathur stated that it is the vision of the  Prime Minister to provide employment to the youth through the Rogzar Mela.

He also stated that Ladakh has its own roles and objectives in achieving the target set by the  Prime Minister to provide jobs to 10 lakhs across the country over 18 months.

He further stated that the Karmayogi Prarambh module that focuses on capacity building of the newly inducted recruits, who will serve in different central, state and UT government departments, will improve the day-to-day functioning of the government and improve developmental activities.
